Our latest arrangement at LX New York was the perfect springy pop of color and compliment to Jane Hanson’s chic neutral outfit. The sophisticated arrangement of pink calla lilies in a lush bed of lily grass was a soft and feminine touch to offset LX’s busting Times Square backdrop.
The Musuem of Natural History in New York City was the perfect venue for IBM’s most-recent event. Flowers of the World decorated the sun-drenched Powerhouse Room with floating green Cymbidium orchids in glass cylinders of assorted heights and sizes. The 400-person reception was held in the beautiful Hall of Universe, with mixed cocktail tables covered in a charcoal crinkle and pewter lamour. The bright green Cymbidiums and Hydrangea with matching floating candles were the perfect centerpieces to create a modern and contemporary vibe at a beautiful and historical Museum.
This week, we are very excited to introduce one of the newest members of our dynamic design team, Shane Latham. Shane is based at our 55th Street studio and is a welcome addition to FOTW. Shane is originally from Atlanta but absolutely loves New York and its exciting fast-paced vibe.
We spent a bit of time getting to know Shane and wanted to share with you.
What brought you to Flowers of the World?
Shane: I was instantly attracted to Flowers of the World’s style. I love the clean, modern and luxurious look and it’s how I design naturally. I also love working with high-end flowers from all over the world.
What do you love the most about your job?
Shane: I love the windows! I had worked in the window display business for many years before coming to Flowers of the World. (very much like Peter, our owner) and designed windows for Saks Fifth Avenue and high-end stores all over the country. I love being able to express myself and bring that vision to our guests and the people that pass by our studios.
We captured Shane putting the finishing touches on a recent window design, inspired by “Spring in the Hamptons” complete with a wooden dock.
What’s your favorite thing to do when you are not at work?
Shane: I am restoring an old Victorian from the 1920s in upstate New York. I love working on the house, but I also love to garden. There is nothing more that I like to do than spend my day in the garden. I love seeing the fruits of my labor.
What’s your favorite flower?
Shane: I would have to say Ranunculus, and my garden is filled with yellow and orange (my favorite color) varieties.
What’s your prized possession?
Shane: Definitely my Smart Car. I have named it Jack, after “Jack be nimble, Jack be quick!” It has amazing technology and gets great gas mileage. I guess you could say I love the combination of old and new, considering I live in a house from the 1920s.
When you were younger, what did you want to be “when you grew up?”
Shane: I wanted to be a soccer player or maybe a musician. I played the french horn. I am very passionate about music and love the classics, like Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald.
And lastly what’s your favorite food?
Shane: Since it’s summer, I am craving a classic New England Lobster Roll!
We see a New England-based window design in our future! Thank you so much Shane for your time and we look forward to meeting another fantastic designer next week!
