Vancouver may be home to the Olympic Games this year, but for canine competitors, New York City was the place to be this week, where Sadie the Scottish terrier took home the Best in Show award at the 134th annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Flowers of the World had the opportunity to decorate one of the Show’s premier events, the Pedigree Awards Dinner, which recognizes individuals and organizations who have done great things for dogs.
The black-tie affair, which took place at the American Museum of Natural History last Saturday night, was months in the making, and Flowers of the World’s events guru, Lauren Romao, began brainstorming Pedigree’s décor last November. Our talented downtown floral design team, led by veteran FOTW designer Jimmy Gaeta, starting prepping the details – from arranging leaves for the foundation of the floral centerpieces, to filling the tall glass pilsners with gold-dyed water and gel – days before set-up began in the vast Hall of Ocean Life at the Museum.

Upon entering the Hall of Ocean Life, guests were wowed with our grand crystal chandeliers – swaying purposefully like jellyfish – and a unique installation of gold-filled glass ring vases with green anthurium. The Museum’s enormous blue whale hung overhead Pedigree’s 39 dinner tables, each featuring lush purple vanda orchids and lemon-lime cordyline, atop gold-hued pilsner glasses. The purple-clothed tables were accented with gold flatware and Chiavari chairs, and glowed with purple candles. All lighting was created by FOTW’s sister company, Intelligent Lighting.
