Passion for Peonies

Our latest windows have us tickled pink for peonies! Sophisticated floating glass cylinders hold two tones of feminine pink peonies that dance in the sunlight. Deep pink and blush pink contrast each other beautifully and have us ready for summer!

We have transformed our “Hampton’s Spring” windows into “Take Mom Sailing!” in honor of Mother’s Day 2011, this Sunday.

The weather is just right to take that special lady in your life sailing. Beautiful feminine Sarah Bernhardt Peonies sit in pink hued water with traditional nautical rope offsetting their soft delicate flower petals. Step into Flowers of the World and pick up something special for your Mom today!

Picturesque Peonies

Few flowers are more indicative of the spring wedding season than the peony, whose luxurious bloom is well timed to peak at the height of June’s bridal bonanza.

With its tissue-like petals, and sumptuous round blossom, the peony is one of the most striking flowers in our shops from April to July. But its magnificent blooms have been beloved for so much more than their appearance for thousands of years; named after the Greek healer Paean, peonies’ roots are said to harbor medicinal powers.

Still, the peony’s superficial qualities – its opulent look and enchanting scent — are what makes most people fall in love with the springtime bloom. Peonies are available in a range of hues, from snow white to deep maroon, and nearly everything in between. Many of the whites and pinks, including the red-speckled Festiva Maxima (above) and the lavender-pink New Jules (below), are sweetly fragrant.
The peach-colored Coral Charm, and radiant Red Charm (pictured below), are less pleasing to the nose, but offer an eyeful of vibrant color, particularly when they’re fully open. The lifespan of peonies can be short once they’ve blossomed, so we’ll often place them in an arrangement prior to opening. Warm water will encourage a faster bloom, but avoid buds that are small and tight, as they might not ever open to reveal the treasure inside.
