A New View at Diffa 2011

This year we were thrilled and honored when Arpad Baska, world-renowned architect, asked us to work with him again to create the floral design for his table-scape at this year’s DIFFA, Dining by Design 2011 in New York City.  Our Special Events Director, Lauren Romao, worked with Arpad and his talented team to create the perfect floral pieces for his thought provoking installation in which the observer is “looking in” onto a scene in which mannequin guests are dining and enjoying their evening. Lauren and the FOTW designers used dramatic Black Beauty red roses in contemporary white cubes with red striping to compliment the sleek scene.

DIFFA Design Honors

When the Society of Registered Architects (SARA) of New York voices their opinion about design, the creative world listens. This year, our ears are especially attuned, since SARA has named Arpad Baksa Architect’s DIFFA table design, created in coordination with Flowers of the World, as the winner of its 2010 professional design awards program! The honor is the second for the project, which also earned the title of Best Table at DIFFA’s 2010 New York City Dining by Design event. Arpad Baksa will accept its latest accolade at SARA’s Design Awards Banquet on June 22, during an evening that also acknowledges architectural feats including HL 23, One Jackson Square and Nouvel Chelsea. Congratulations to the ingenious team at Arpad Baksa, and thank you for including us in this award-winning design!

Times Tables

The New York Times has a famous slogan: “All the news that’s fit to print.” Today, apparently, Flowers of the World is fit to print, since our “Best Table” design from last weekend’s DIFFA event, created with Arpad Baksa Architect, is featured in the Gray Lady!

Check out the photo of our table, leading the slideshow in today’s Home and Garden Section.

This weekend, Flowers of the World had the privilege to be a part of one of the most prestigious design events of the year: the 2010 New York City Dining by Design, hosted by DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS). The event, which is presented in conjunction with the Architectural Digest Home Design Show, took place at Pier 94, and consisted of nearly 40 booths with tables decorated by prestigious architects and veteran designers.

Flowers of the World paired with Arpad Baksa Architect, PC, a renown architectural firm responsible for creating some of New York City’s most dynamic spaces. The firm’s DIFFA booth design, inspired by “an increasingly connected and complex world,” according to Arpad Baksa, features a geometric web, woven from 2,500 feet of rope. In the middle of the web, Flowers of the World created a floral centerpiece, using lush red Gloriosa Lilies, that winds upwards towards the roof of the booth, symbolizing “hope of untanglement and order in our lives.” The design vision came together after several late nights of hard work, but it was well worth it; our table was awarded “Best Design for 2010” at the show!
